After some issues with exporting an editable usable AI file I did some tests. I prefer XXP but the export side just doesn't work as well as it could. I'm currently working on a project that for the most part requires me to provide AI files. By having a setting on the export box that says "Convert lines to shapes" this problem would be rectified without having to change the source file prior to export. Change a line to say one of the Xara specific line shapes they are exported as default lines in SVG or as bitmaps PDF/AI. As an example lines are exported without any issues when using the default line shape. Nothing Xara can do about that.I can understand that to a degree but there has to be some form of conversion done in order to maximise compatibility. It would be that Illy isn't supporting them.įrom what Bill says above it's at the Adobe end the problem lies.

If, and I haven't tried it, Illy CS5 doesn't recognize the PDF layers, it isn't because the PDF doesn't contain them. The main difference is that each layer also had the clipping path attached and those were unclipped and deleted before the screen shot. The layers were intact upon import to PL as well (another screen shot is attached. A screen shot is attached.Īlso, just for fun, I exported the same drawing out as a PDFX-1a version. So I just did a few shapes on their own layers, exported as Xara EPS format and brought them into PL. Anyway, the Xara EPS format came in as separate layers (as vector objects).

I had a need to pull in an illustration from XDP into PL to do some photo manipulation using a particular filter that I couldn't get to work in XDP.

I do have (and use) PhotoLine which has vector abilities. Illustrator is on my desktop and so don't have access to it. Just for fun, export something out intended for Illy using the Xara EPS format.
